About Us

The Centre for Rehab Innovations (CRI) is a research centre at the University of Newcastle delivering technology-enabled models of health care.

Our programs are designed, implemented and evaluated in community and home settings; aged care environments; within hospitals and rehabilitation centres; and in education and training programs.

Vision

Optimal health and recovery along a care continuum, in environments that promote healthy living and prevention of injury and disease

Mission

Re-shaping the recovery experience, through research and innovation at the interface of rehabilitation, neuroscience, psychology, and engineering, to support healthy ageing

Our goals

Developing innovative technologies that deliver substantial and sustainable benefits

We specialise in the integration of technology in the care continuum, considering not only the immediate clinical benefits but also its placement within the larger health-economic system.

Better consumer care and enhanced outcomes

We collaborate closely with consumers, care providers, clinicians and other relevant stakeholders to co-create solutions that optimise recovery and promote healthy living. We identify potential challenges and design solutions that fit seamlessly into established care processes.

Leaders in the assessment, design and implementation of new technologies into health care settings

We have extensive experience in considering the best approaches to data acquisition systems that collect relevant patient data including wearable devices, electronic health records and remote monitoring technologies.

We are a team of interdisciplinary innovative thinkers bringing together our expertise in rehabilitation, neuroscience, psychology, engineering and more.
— Professor Rohan Walker, Deputy Director, CRI
