Exploring the feasibility of an Innovative Financial Remuneration Program for Pain Management in General Practice
The management of patients recovering from workplace and motor vehicle accidents is a complex process. Often rehabilitation requires extensive interaction between the patient, health care specialists, allied health practitioners, and insurers. A particular concern with workplace and motor vehicle accidents is the risk of patients developing chronic pain. Chronic pain and its related issues are associated with billions of dollars of additional costs each year that are potentially avoidable.
The Centre for Rehab Innovation (CRI) have partnered with QBE Insurance to explore General Practitioner and other stakeholder perspectives on the acceptability and feasibility of an innovation remuneration program for the management of pain in General Practice, the IMPACT Program. The IMPACT Program (Innovations in the Management of Pain: Approaches to Care Transformed) is a pilot program aiming to support GPs to deliver longer consultations with patients who are at a high risk of being prescribed pain medication. Understanding the barriers, enablers, and organisational and contextual factors that influence the uptake of this program among General Practices is essential for informing refinements and improvements to this innovative program.
