Improving Mental, Physical and Social Wellbeing for older adults
The Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network (PHN) has partnered with CRI to develop a program to reduce isolation, improve connectedness and boost physical activity in those aged over 65.
Promoting and supporting good health for residents in aged care facilities and in the community has recently been flagged as a national priority. While a number of factors can influence health into older age, physical deconditioning and social isolation play a significant role leading to deterioration of health and social disengagement of aged care residents. Although exercise is widely accepted as an effective tool to improve physical, mental and social health of older people, the resourcing of aged care facilities and Australia’s ageing population confound the necessity for a cost-effective and sustainable model to engage aged care residents with exercise to maintain their health.
The EngAGE project aims to provide aged care and elderly community residents an avenue for fun, safe and socially engaged exercise to combat the physical, mental, and social burdens of ageing.
This project is jointly funded by the Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network (PHN) and CRI.
