2022 Rehabilitation and Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (RMSANZ) 5th Annual Scientific Meeting
On Tuesday 7 June, CRI together with the Rehabilitation Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (RMSANZ) jointly hosted a Pre-Conference workshop where we explored the controversies of the role of the Rehabilitation Medicine Physician into the future. CRI’s Executive, Professor Michael Nilsson, Professor Rohan Walker and Associate Professor Michael Pollack facilitated and presented at the workshop together with speakers Dr Zoe Adey-Wakeling (President, RMSANZ) , Professor Thomas Linden (Chief Medical Officer, Sweden), Dr Lynne McKinlay (Medical Director, Learning and Workforce, Children’s Health Queensland) and Associate Professor Ray Russo (Head of Research, Paediatric Rehabilitation, SA Health).

The workshop provided an opportunity for the speakers to delve into topics looking at the national, public health, paediatric and patient perspectives; what the implications are for Rehabilitation Medicine in the future; and for the participants to partake in an interactive workshop discussing where we are heading as Rehabilitation Medicine Physicians. We had the pleasure of hosting Sweden’s Chief Medical Officer and long term collaborator with CRI, Professor Thomas Linden for the workshop.
The workshop was held in conjunction with the 2022 RMSANZ 5th Annual Scientific Meeting on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia where Thomas Linden also delivered a Plenary Lecture and Michael Nilsson gave a lecture at the research session organised by the Rehabilitation Faculty with Michael Pollack as the Chairman.
The RMSANZ conference brings together expertise in medical, nursing, allied health and community partners nationally and internationally. The theme for RMSANZ 2022 was Forging Alliances – New Horizons with a focus on the importance of the patient bond and the collaborative and inter-disciplinary nature of future rehabilitation practice.
